September in retrospect

Fresh Sewing Day
I'm linking up with Lynne's Fresh Sewing Day again this month -- so to anyone who might have stumbled over here from Lily's Quilts: WELCOME!  Thank you so much for coming by, and I hope you see some things here that interest you.  As a fairly new blogger with a very small set of followers, I truly appreciate being able to share my work, and love to get feedback!

It's really such a lovely thing Lynne does -- giving everyone a chance to reflect on the month past, to look at others' work, and to encourage networking among stitchy bloggers.

September was a terribly busy month for me -- although October will be even more intense with one minor and one MAJOR (book manuscript! gulp!) deadline barrelling towards me.

Nevertheless...I did have two finishes in September, both gifts for teachers at little Frida's Montessori school.

At the beginning of the month I finished up "Blue Skies and Sunshine," a wedding gift.

More recently, I made a baby quilt,"[Gray geese] over the rainbow."

There was also some Farmer's Wife QAL progress, after a long hiatus:

some hexalong-ing:

and some first steps (and one little mis-step) for a new project:

I've said it before, but I really mean it: in the midst of a high-intensity and high-stress period of my life, I truly appreciate the windows of creative time, however narrow they may be.

Thanks again for coming by!

You've been really busy with such wonderful projects! I'm not making the FW quilt but I seem to be buying fabric for it....

You have a fantastic eye for colour use. I love the whole gamut, but I really like how you combined the blue, yellow, and grey-pops wonderfully.

Everything looks fabulous! I especially love Your Blue Skies and Sunshine quilt. Looks so great with the different blues and pops of yellow! So glad I found your blog!

Hi, I'm a fellow small blogger lol! I have to say I think blue skies and sunshine is a lovely gesture for a wedding present but my favourite by far is the baby quilt - the rainbow geese are adorable, the colours are fantastic! Well done! Also - how much did you get done? I think that I am starting to get seriously motivated to get things finished this month :)

Oooo, thank you SO much everyone! The comments and feedback are very much appreciated :)

How much did I get done? It doesn't feel like all that much, but I guess it does add up. I finished "Blue Skies" right at the beginning of the month; most of the work on that one was done in August. The geese baby quilt was a fairly quick make, done in small windows of time over about a 10-day period (and I cut 3 times too many squares of the colours -- not concentrating too wonderfully on my crafting, and not reading the directions on my Lazy Girl ruler quite right...anyway, I'm going to have to do something fun with those 2 leftover rainbows of large squares). I made 5 Farmer's Wife blocks over the course of the month (2 post-todddler-bedtime evenings' worth), and about 2 of the English paper-pieced hexagons (stitched during small windows of TV-viewing).

I haven't had any of the blissful afternoons of sewing time that I experienced in the early summer, but by taking advantage of small windows and flashes of inspiration I have been able to keep some projects rolling along.

Thanks again for all these comments! I love 'em!

Wow! For someone who didn't have much time to sew, you sure managed to accomplish an awful lot. I'm impressed. I'm hopeful that now that I have two "secret" projects almost completed I will have some time to get back to the Farmer's Wife and the HexAlong. That and the fact that camping season is over....

Wow, you were busy! And have some gorgeous projects to show for it! And I totally agree ~ escaping to my craft room for an hour makes me handle everything else a whole lot easier.

I am so loving those 2 quilts!! I adore modern baby quilts but I think the wedding gift one is my favouite. Is the fabric from one range or did you pull them together yourself? It looks amazing!

Many thanks, Lynz, Catherine, and Liz!! Lynz: the yellows and blues for the wedding quilt were all in my stash, drawn from quite a few lines (including some older Anna Maria Horner fabric -- Garden Party, I think; some Lecien basic dots; Meadowsweet; Jane's Hothouse Garden and Prairie Gothic. I remember the last two on that list because I did buy half yards of those when I first had the idea to use the couple's wedding colours (yellow and blue), and suspected that these prints might work with others already in my collection. Anyway, I think there are some other lines represented in there, but these are the ones I know by name!! Thanks again for your sweet feedback.
